Performance Profile
RA 353 MA is a strong, highly oxidation
resistant alloy regarded as the upgrade from
RA33O0~ for service above 1800 °F. In the
steel heat treat industry RA 353 MA is particularly
suited for applications involving very high
temperatures, with either oxidizing or carburizing
atmospheres. Specific examples include copper
brazing and P/M sintering muffles, radiant tubes
for carburizing furnaces and forge furnace
components.
Because of its high chromium content, RA 353 MA
has excellent hot corrosion resistance under
oxidizing conditions, being advantageous for
recuperators and tube shields at temperatures as
low as 1400 °F. The erosion-corrosion
resistance of RA 353 MA is important for
applications such as cyclones in fluidized bed
combustors.
To maximize the performance of RA 353 MA
fabrications it is important to weld with matching
RA 353 MA weld filler. RA 353 MA DC basic
electrodes and bare wire are a close match for both
the oxidation resistance and the high melting point
of the base metal.
